The C107 SLC was launched in 1971 as Mercedes-Benz's new entry-level sports car.
Initially powered by a 2.3-liter engine producing 180 horsepower, the SLC quickly gained recognition for its sophisticated engineering and elegant design. The model was developed as a successor to the earlier 230 SL, offering improved performance and modern styling that appealed to a broad demographic.
Throughout the 1970s, Mercedes-Benz expanded the SLC lineup with larger displacement options, including the 2.8L, 3.5L, and ultimately the 3.8L variant. These more powerful versions became increasingly popular in markets demanding greater performance, particularly in North America and continental Europe.
Production continued through 1981, with the model becoming one of Mercedes-Benz's best-selling sports cars ever. The C107's longevity and commercial success established it as an icon of 1970s automotive design and engineering excellence.
